Earthquakes have historically occurred throughout the Puget Sound region. Large earthquakes have caused loss of life and over a billion dollars in property damage. The purpose of this Chapter is to protect public health, safety, and general welfare of the citizens of Pierce County from the damaging effects of earthquakes. This Chapter provides standards to ensure life safety and minimize public and private losses that may occur within a seismic hazard area.
