8.98.020 Programs Authorized.
A. The Community Connections Department* is authorized to provide or contract to provide veterans' assistance programs pursuant to this Chapter and Chapter 73.08 RCW relating to Veterans Relief. Authorized programs shall be for the benefit of indigent veterans and their dependents who are Pierce County residents and shall include:
1. Short-term, emergency assistance to be used for food, shelter, utilities and other necessities of life;
2. Referrals to public or private agencies capable of rendering specific aid or counsel;
3. Assistance with public agencies, landlords, utility companies and other providers of necessities;
4. Assistance with law enforcement agencies or the courts; and
5. Otherwise provide for the needs of indigent veterans and their families as allowed by law.
B. Every effort shall be made to apply the veterans preference provided at RCW 73.16.010 to hires supervising programs under this Chapter.
