It is the policy of Pierce County to make effective preparation and use of staff, resources, and facilities for dealing with any emergency or disaster that may occur. Disasters and emergencies by their very nature, may disrupt existing systems and the capability of Pierce County to respond to protect life, public health and public property. Therefore, citizens are encouraged to be prepared to be self-sufficient for up to five days should an emergency or disaster occur.
