The advisory commission shall be composed of 12 voting members who shall represent a balance of interests, experiences, and expertise including, but not limited to, citizens, public interest groups, businesses, commercial transportation, agriculture and four non-voting government ex-officio members as set forth below:

A. The 12 voting members shall be comprised of the following:

1. Three residents from unincorporated Pierce County. These members should represent community organizations which are active in the unincorporated area when possible and should be selected to achieve broad geographic coverage;

2. Three members representing business or business associations;

3. One member representing school districts or parent teacher student associations;

4. One member representing a transit association or agency such as Pierce Transit;

5. One member representing a non-motorized user group;

6. One member representing the agriculture production sector;

7. One member representing the long-haul transportation industry; and

8. One member representing the short-haul/intra-county/last mile transportation industry.

B. The four non-voting government ex-officio members shall include one representative each from the Pierce County Planning and Public Works Department, the Pierce County Economic Development Department, the Office of the Pierce County Council, and the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department.

C. From time to time, staff members of the Sheriff’s Department, Parks and Recreation Department, and Emergency Management Department may be requested to provide information and counsel to the Transportation Advisory Commission on transportation policy, priorities, or traffic safety.

D. At least annually, the Executive or Chair of the Pierce County Council should invite senior staff from Joint Base Lewis-McChord to inform the advisory commission of potential unit or equipment changes at Lewis Main or McChord Field that could impact the provision of county transportation services for deployment overseas or use in responding to Pierce County, Federal or Washington State natural disasters.

E. At least annually, the Commission should consult with the Pierce County Accessible Communities Advisory Committee regarding transportation access for persons with disabilities within the community.
