A. Standards.

1. Design Objective. To protect public health and safety in the event of a fire.

a. Standards.

(1) Sprinklers may be required in accordance with Chapter 17C.60 PCC, International Fire Code, including when building separation is less than 10 feet or emergency vehicle access width is less than 20 feet (factoring in potential impediments such as vehicles parking on-street). Sprinkler systems shall meet NFPA 13 D specifications.

(2) A second story rescue access at the front or back of the building shall be provided, as approved by the Fire Prevention Bureau.

(3) When building separation is less than 10 feet, exterior building siding shall consist of fire resistant materials, or other material as approved by the Pierce County Fire Marshal.

(4) Unless the common open space is designed to allow for emergency vehicle access, homes that front on a common open space shall have all portions of the first floor within 150 feet of emergency vehicle access.
