The purpose of this Chapter is to outline the provisions for classifying rural or urban open space in conjunction with new development. Open space serves to: preserve the character of the natural and rural environment, protect stream corridors, ridgelines, shorelines, critical areas and fish and wildlife movement corridors; provide residents with usable open space for passive recreation and alternative non-motorized transportation corridors; and protect the health and welfare of citizens by providing space for the control and enhancement of natural processes such as aquifer recharge, water quality, and flood water storage capacity.
